2. The graceful Suruli Falls

3. Charming Kurangani

4. The beautiful Vaigai Dam
Situated 14km from Theni and 70km from Madurai, the Vaigai dam is a monument by itself. Built across the Vaigai River near Aundipatti, it is a vital source of water for all the villages in the vicinity. It also hosts a hydroelectric power plant. There is a cute little park which is maintained Water Resources Dept on both sides of the dam.
5. Enticing Manjalar Dam
The Manjalar Dam across the Manjalar River, Tamil Nadu is situated in Theni Dist. Approximately 18km from the Batlagundu bus stop, the dam is visible from the KodaiGhat Road, en route Kodaikanal.
6. The Delightful Bodimettu
A picturesque hillock with Tamil Nadu on one side and Kerala on the other, Bodimettu is a beautiful picnic spot with mountain view, chill weather, and dainty eateries. It is situated close to major tourist spots like Munnar, Marayur, Thekkady. The cardamom plantations add to the rich aroma and scenic beauty of Bodimettu.
7. Kumbakarai Falls
Located at the foothills of Kodaikanal, Kumbakarai is a less known tourist spot. It is situated along the Kodai-Vellagavi-Periyakulam road. The falls is fed by a river flowing from Kodaikanal and the flow is throughout the year. During monsoon, the water flow is heavy but bathing is not restricted.
8. The serene Sothuparia Dam
Located across the Varaha river, the Sothuparai dam is located 12km away from the town of Periyakulam, Theni Dist. It is a little piece of paradise hidden away behind the dense coconut and mango plantations. It is a very good picnic spot as many small rivulets are running across the plantations, one could spend a relaxed afternoon on its banks with good food and family.
9. The gorgeous Shanmuganathi Dam
Built across the Shanmuganathi River in Rayappanpatti, Theni Dist, it is the main source of irrigation for all the villages around. A very scenic place, situated at the foothills of Meghamalai, is 4km away from Rayappanpatti.
10. The breezy Ramakkalmedu
The panoramic Ramakkalmedu is a hillock and a hamlet in the Idukki Dist of Kerala. The view is scenic and it is a famous tourist spot. The iconic KuravanKurathi statue is a very prominent attraction. The landscape is largely grassy with sporadic bamboo forests. The climate is cool and windy throughout the year irrespective of the season.
11. Mesmerizing Thekkady
A quaint little town near the Periyar National Park, Thekkady is a very important tourist attraction. Thekkady is home to a dense evergreen forest, a variety of animals, and a splendid artificial lake by the Mullaiperiyar Dam. The best attractions are the elephant sightings, deer, and bison, which come down to have a drink at the lake. Trekking, boating, and jeep safari are the major activities here. Spices like black pepper, nutmeg cinnamon, cardamom, nut mace, ginger, and clove are indigenous to this place.
12. Rivetting Munnar
Also called the Kashmir of South India, Munnar is a hill station situated in the Idukki District of Kerala. Elevated at 1600m above the sea level, in the Western Ghats, Munnar is a famous and most sought out tourist spot. The plush green tea plantations and the pleasant climate throughout the year is the main attraction for Munnar. Mattupatty Dam, Rose Garden, Lockhart Tea museum, Devikulam Sri Ayyappan temple, Anaiyirangal Dam, Periyakanalwaterfalls, Pothamedu Viewpoint, Eraivukulam National park, and Anaimudi Peak are some of the must-visit places here.
13. Grandiose Kumily
“Travel before you are out of time”. A favorite hangout amongst tourists mainly due to its refreshing climate, Kumily is situated at 880m above sea level in the Idukki Dist. Covered with cardamon plantations on one size, thick forests on the other, it also hosts the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. The other tourist attractions nearby are Thekkady, Anchuruli, Ottakathalamedu, Wagamon, Kalvery mount, Kalyanathandu, and Pine Forest.
14. The Spectacular Parunthumpara
A beautiful scenic spot enroute Wagamon, Parundhumpara, also known as “Eagle’s rock” is a good tourist spot. Covered with lush greenery around with low lying areas as well, Parunthumpara is still virgin land, unexploited by concrete. The famous Makarajyothi of Sabarimala is visible from here. The main attractions of Parunthum para are the Suicide point and Tagore’s head.
15. BreathtakingKuttikaanam
A hill station in the Idukki dist covered by lush green tea plantations, Kuttikaanam is inevitable as a tourist spot. The major attractions are Peeru hills, Parunthumpara, Thottapura(Place where the Travancore family stored weapons), Thirisangu hills, PanchaliMedu(one of the many legendary hiding places of Pandavas and Panchali), Panchalikulam, the spot from which Makarajyothi of Sabarimala can be viewed.
Theni is well-connected to the major cities of Tamil Nadu by all three means of transport. It can be easily reached from the South Indian cities like Puducherry, Madurai, Coimbatore, Trichy, and Chennai.
Theni does not have a domestic or international airport. The closest airport is the Madurai airport which is 77 kilometres away from the city centre. The Madurai airport is connected to many cities in India and has frequent flights to all the major metropolitans.
